ABOUT
Our Mission
Yallambee Aboriginal Culture & Community Advancement Incorporated (YACCA), is an Association that was created in 2022 by the residents, family members and friends of Yallambee, to provide support for its members, Yallambee residents, and their extended families.
Yallambee is an Aboriginal Reserve located in the town of Mount Isa QLD. Yallambee is traditionally also known as "Camping Area" as that is where Kalkatungu people first dwelled in tents before houses were built as they were not allowed to segregate in the other parts of town.
Yallambee is a very special place to the Kalkatungu people of Mount Isa as it is a history place and a memory place. At the edge of the reserve is a very culturally significant rock that is said to be the droppings of Yacca, the black cockatoo which is known as the Kalkatungu dreaming.
The members of YACCA believe that Aboriginal services should, wherever possible be run by Aboriginal People. The purpose of starting this association is to provide a service that is created by the people who understand firsthand the struggles that the community faces.
We are taking responsibility for our own families and community and we are motivating our mob to make a real positive change in the lives of those affected by intergenerational trauma.
Objectives
The objectives of the association are to assist in the relief of poverty, sickness,
disability, destitution, hopelessness, distress, suffering and misfortune,
among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, through the process of
supporting social and economic development.
To improve environmental, cultural, economic, community advancement,
spiritual, health and wellbeing for Yallambee community and our other
families.
To promote the prevention or the control of diseases in human beings and promote the prevention or the control of behaviour that is harmful or abusive to human beings.
The association aims to:
• operate community enterprises and build a strong financial base for
community development activities and infrastructure.
• Promote community development by acting as a resource for the
community and development activities and infrastructure.
• Act as a clearing house to facilitate exchange of information, skills,
participation and maintenance of community development activities,
community services, employment and housing for the community.
